WooCommerce Elementor Plugin Review

WooCommerce is one of the most popular platforms for eCommerce. WooCommerce is a plugin for WordPress which gives a website the functionality of a store. In this blog, I discuss the pros and cons for the WooCommerce Elementor Plugin.

Table of Contents

Customizability

At first glance, the Woocommerce Elementor Plugin does not have very good customizability. Having installed the plugin, it generates pages for the site such as Cart, Shop and Checkout. These pages are very bare and as they are just shortcode and so cannot be customized; this is somewhat complex for inexperienced Elementor users.

However, by creating new pages to replace the generated WooCommerce pages, one can customize almost all of the elements. This can either be done by creating new pages with the Elementor builder or with the WordPress editor with an additional plugin – WooCommerce Blocks. You can then change where the WooCommerce plugin directs each page to in the advanced tab of settings.

Firstly, in regards to building in Elementor, this is nothing out of the ordinary from normal building in Elementor but with some new WooCommerce widgets. You can also create templates for each product page or the products archive page within the Elementor templates section.

Secondly, you can build these new pages within the WordPress editor with the plugin WooCommerce Blocks. This plugin gives the user blocks within the WordPress editor which can be dragged and dropped. Having said that, these blocks lack a lot of customizability – this is where another plugin comes in – WooCommerce Colors. WooCommerce Colors creates additional sections in the customize menu of a website, giving the user the ability to change the colour of almost all of the WooCommerce parts.

There are some parts of WooCommerce which require custom code to be changed, in terms of colour or removing it completely. For example, the breadcrumbs that WooCommerce creates (such as shop > mens > product) need custom css code to be removed. This can seem complex for users which have not had to deal with custom code before.

Overall, I give the customizability 6/10

Functionality

Moving onto the functionality of WooCommerce Elementor plugin, this is where there are not many issues. As spoken about earlier, as soon as the plugin is installed, it creates pages for all of the necessary pages needed for a store without any effort from the user. Although these pages are lacking customizability as discussed earlier, if needed, these pages would function completely fine for the store.

There are other sections such as coupons, stock levels, tax and payment options which are very easy to set up, regardless of a user’s comfortability on WordPress. These sections can be found from the WordPress admin page and are easy to navigate.

Overall, I give the functionality 10/10

Add-Ons

Just like Elementor, WooCommerce can be improved with some added plugins. Both WooCommerce Blocks and WooCommerce Colors were spoken about earlier which allow more customizability for the plugin; I would strongly recommend installing both of these.

Another plugin which I recommend is Side Cart for WooCommerce. This plugin creates a small icon on the screen, just like the scroll to top icon you see on the right, which takes the user to a cart on the side of the screen. The side cart can be customized to include what you would like, such as Checkout, Return to Shop and View Cart as well as colour customizability. The pro version gives even more customizability on elements such as icons. The plugin itself also has many extension options such as smart coupons, marketing automation and memberships.

Overall, I give the add-ons 8/10

With all those things discussed, I would definitely recommend using the WooCommerce Elementor Plugin if you want to sell products on your website. You will need some prior knowledge of Elementor if you are building the store in Elementor.
