Hopefield are a Brentwood-based animal sanctuary currently caring for over 500 sick, unwanted and mistreated animals on 53 acres of beautiful countryside. The sanctuary had an existing website, built on Craft CMS, and were looking to rebuild the site and move over to WordPress to benefit from a higher level of customisation and improved ease of editing. At the heart of the project, we would need to transfer and rebuild the donation functionality, transfer the existing content without fault and integrate the website with a new events booking system, having chosen to move this internally into the website.
Here are some of the goals that we had for the project:
We ensured that the vital donation system was transferred across with ease.
The website was transferred from one system to another without downtime to the public.
We also integrated a booking system to further boost the website’s performance.
We focused on improving some of the design of the website during the rebuild.
As per the goals of the project, we firstly focused on the build and set up of the donation system as this is vital to the sanctuary. This system was added to the new WordPress site, integrated with the desired payment gateways and set up to give the sanctuary the most benefit moving forward. After the set up was complete, the donation form was added to the relevant pages and tested to ensure that everything was hunky-dory, and it was 😉
In the meantime, the website’s content was transferred identically from the existing site, ensuring that no adverse effects occurred to the website’s performance and search engine optimisation. While doing this, design improvements were made to further improve user experience across the new site and to give a more modern look and feel in certain areas.
From here, we moved onto the booking integration, moving the existing Bookwhen functionality into the website itself, again allowing for enhanced customisation and control for the sanctuary. The booking system has led to a much more user-friendly design with Hopefield’s branding which was somewhat limited with the existing system. This was then set up with the customers’ and sanctuary’s experiences in mind and was integrated with the desired payment gateways again, allowing customers to book tickets to the sanctuary directly from the website.
Louis is an absolute delight to work with. Right from the start, he’s gone above and beyond, explaining things that we don’t understand, and really taking the time to listen to what we want from our site too. We switched our website over from one system to another, and Louis replicated it so well you can barely notice. He’s also made a large number of improvements, and we’re really excited to see them in action. We would highly recommend his services!
Before transferring the new site to the live site, thorough testing and bug fixes were carried out to ensure that Hopefield’s customers had a positive user experience while using the website. With the green light given, the new website replaced the existing site without any downtime of the website to potential customers while transferring the new site over, completed within under an hour.
It was great to see the new website go live recently and to see the new improvements and systems add benefit to Hopefield’s customers. Even more so, being able to work with a brilliant charity and one just down the road was a pleasure!
